TRAV-7-A Vega de Urriellu Refuge-Collado Jermoso Refuge (By Tiro Callejo)

El nevero previo a Tiro Callejo

Of the two options to go to Collado Jermoso Refuge, this is the faster route, (approx. 6 hours), it is shorter, but has a considerable technical difficulty and greater danger.

  • Time: 6 hours.
  • Level: +1.050 m / -950 m.
  • Difficulty: Very high (Requires climbing and climbing skills; rope recommended).

Part 1: From Urriellu to Caba帽a Ver贸nica (Common Section) We leave the Refugio de Vega de Urriellu on the well-marked trail heading south towards the Garganta del Jou sin Tierre. From there, after enjoying the view of the valley, we continue on stony terrain with slight ups and downs until we reach the foot of the Torre de los Horcados Rojos. Here we have two options to climb the Collado de Horcados Rojos:

  1. Por Los Boches: It is the most direct route, but more complicated. There is a cable installed to help in the ascent. Warning: There is a risk of falling stones and it is not recommended in winter because of the ice.
  2. Por Los Urrieles: It is the easiest but longest option. We leave the Boches path to the left, cross the rocky area and border the wall to a small pass, from where we finally descend to the Collado de Horcados Rojos.

From the pass, we descend along a clear path to the crossroads and take the branch to the right. After a short climb, we reach the Refuge of Caba帽a Ver贸nica.

Part 2: The Tiro Callejo Pass (Specific Section) From Caba帽a Ver贸nica, we head towards Collada Blanca. We cross the Jou Trasllambri贸n on its left side. The terrain becomes difficult: we will have to do some climbing until we reach a snowfield (area of perpetual snow), which we skirt to climb to reach the Tiro Callejo gap.

From this high point begins the more delicate descent to the other slope. We descend following some yellow patches until we find some vertical skills. Warning: It is highly recommended to carry a rope to secure these steps. Once we have overcome the worst, we descend through a delicate terrain of stone terraces until we finally reach the Refuge of Collado Jermoso.

We will continue our descent until we reach the Refuge of Collado Jermoso.
