PR-PNPE-31. Camarmeña

• Type: Semi-circular (It starts and finishes in different points of Poncebos, but very close).
• Distance and Duration: 2 km / 1 hour and 30 minutes (total).
• Difficulty: 200 m.
• Difficulty: Low (It is short and with little gradient).

General Description It is a short route that climbs from the bottom of the valley (Poncebos) to the small village of Camarmeña, perched on the mountain. Historically it was a very important point, but today it stands out for its lookout, which offers one of the best views of the Naranjo de Bulnes (Pico Urriellu).

The Route

1. Start: You start at the entrance to Poncebos (coming from Arenas de Cabrales), crossing the bridge over the Cares River reservoir.
2. Ascent: You take a path that zig-zags up the hillside. You will pass through an area with stone steps and some woodland until you reach a small pass (crossroads).
3. To the village: At the crossroads, take the path to the right to reach Camarmeña. There we must go to the viewpoint to enjoy the views and visit the church.
4. Downhill: We return to the previous junction, but this time we take the path that descends towards Poncebos (the one we previously left on the left).
5. End: The descent passes near the pipes of the hydroelectric plant, crosses the asphalt road and continues on a narrow path until you come out onto a concrete track next to a hostel-restaurant in the area of La Trapa (Poncebos).

Caution: If you have to walk along the road to get back to the car (between the end point and the starting point), be very careful with traffic, especially in the tunnels.
